A Minor Pentatonic Scale - A C D E G

The minor pentatonic scale is probably the most commonly used scale on the guitar - found in the styles of blues, country, rock and metal. In the key of A, this scale begins on the 5th fret of the E string (an A note) giving us A minor pentatonic. The term pentatonic means we have a five (penta) tone (tonic) scale. There are only 5 different notes in this scale (A, C, D, E, G) and it is played in this lesson through two octaves. If you know your notes across the E string, you would know that starting at the 7th fret would give Bm pentatonic, the 3rd fret would give Gm pentatonic, etc.

Remember to use alternate picking when you play this scale!
