The Epiphone Explorer Electric Guitar is based on the space age 1958 Gibson design. Epiphone is a company owned by Gibson, and makes cheaper versions (Korean made) of most Gibson guitars (USA made). The Explorer has a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard, two humbuckers, one tone, two volume knobs and a three-way switch. I highly recommend buying Epiphone guitars and putting in good new pickups. This will give you an amazing sounding guitar for a fraction of the cost of a Gibson!

My guitar is fitted with the EMG - Zakk Wylde pickup set, featuring the 81 & 85 humbuckers. They sound crisp and clear on a clean channel, and heavy and powerful with a distorted amp channel. Some soldering is required to fit the pick-ups yourself, but its worth it!

Epiphone also makes a Goth version (all black) of the Explorer for the same low price as the regular model. Also, since the Explorer shape is so popular, other quality guitar makers such as ESP and Hamer have similar shaped models which are just as good quality as the epiphone, but even cheaper in price!

Gibson Explorers

Finally, for the real deal in explorer guitars, you can't go wrong with the Gibson models. It's a relatively short jump in price for higher quality in woods, tuning pegs, and craftmanship. Also included are a tune-o-matic bridge for better intonation and a Gibson hard shelled case to carry your guitar in.
