Palm Muting

Palm muting is a dynamic effect that allows you to control the volume of your notes. It can be used with accoustic guitars for a nice string dampening effect, but the most dramatic effect is heard when used with distorted electric guitars to give both noise control and "heaviness" to the sound.

 

On TAB, palm mutes are represented by a P.M. and look like this:
