Powerchords (G5, C5, D5) Powerchords consist of only two notes, known as the root and the 5th. The octave may also be included as demonstrated in this video, but it is the same note as the root. This lesson begins with a G powerchord (also known as G5), the root note is G, and the 5th is D. This lesson follows the I, IV, V rock chord progression in G - G(I), C(IV), D(V). This type of chord progression can be found in thousands of songs and sounds great with distortion!
